Step One: If you have lost a pet put out food, water, its bed, or an article of your clothing. There is a good chance your pet will return.
Step Two: Fill out a Lost Pet Form by clicking here. This is submitted directly to the shelter.
Step Three: Spread the word. Print lost flyers. Post them around the area your pet was last seen and try going door to door. Flyers may also be taken to local vet clinics and the animal shelter. Post on personal and local Facebook pages as well.
Found PetThank you so much for helping a lost pet!
Note: Pets can quickly become disorderly in appearance. It is important not to assume that the pet was dumped or not loved and cared for by its family.
Check for tags or injuries. If the pet has tags call or text their pet parents and set up a reunion. If they have a rabies tag from a veterinary office call and give the office the tag number. They will often contact the owners for you. Sometimes owner/pet information is stitched or handwritten directly onto the collar so make sure you check there as well.
Take pet to be scanned for microchip. Most vet offices offer this service free of charge. You can also stop by the shelter, and someone can assist you.
Hold the pet for 48 hours, if you have the ability. Typically, pets donβt wander too far from home and are within ΒΌ mile of where they are staying. Chances are someone is looking for them close to where they were found. You can also fill out a Found Pet Form (by clicking here) so the shelter staff are aware that the pet has been found.
Share, Share, Share! Post the pet on Facebook as found on local pages. You can also post the dog/cat on Petco Love Lost, Pet FBI, or Pawboost.

City of Miami Animal Control focuses on domestic animals living within the municipal city limits. If you are having an issue with wildlife we recommend you contact The Oklahoma Department of Wildlife and Conservation, or the Ottawa County Game Warden. They can point you in the right direction or help you remedy a wildlife issue.
If you find injured wildlife the closest wildlife rehabilitation center is Wild Heart Ranch: https://4thewild.org/ Please note they do not take wildlife from across state lines. Please call them to arrange an animal drop off.
